The 39th annual Dia del Sol will be presented by the Beach and Country Guild on Wednesday, October 15th.  The event, which benefits United Cerebral Palsy Centers of San Diego, will be held at an estate in Rancho Santa Fe.

The event features a home tour of the estate, a gourmet luncheon, both a silent and a live auction and a runway fashion show and boutique courtesy of Nordstrom, a Dia del Sol partner since 1999.

This years Dia del Sol event will have a very special guest,  Abbey Curran who is currently the reining Miss Iowa USA 2008. She was crowned in November 2007 and become the first state winner in the history of the Miss USA Pageant who has dealt with special challenge her entire life. Abbey grew up a hog farmer's daughter and was born with Cerebral Palsy and has dedicated her life to proving that no challenge or limitation is great enough to stop her from achieving her dreams.

Not only has Abbey successfully placed in over five pageants, she also took the life lessons she learned and created her very own non profit pageant for young girls and women with special needs and challenges. The Miss You Can Do It Pageant is now in its fifth year, and Abbey is very excited to see her pageant keep growing and would someday like to see the pageant become nationally known. Abbey is currently pursing her degree in public relations at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa.

In her spare time, Abbey loves water color painting, continuing flying lessons in the hope of one day getting her pilot's license, hanging out with her friends and family, eating her favorite pasta salad at Arthur's Deli and working closely with Easter Seals and the American Cancer Society. Abbeys lives by the motto "If you can dream it, you can do it!"

Last year’s Dia del Sol event, held at the stunning home of Steve & Amy Finley, raised a record breaking net of over $300,000 for the Beach and Country Guild, which was then given to United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego

Tickets to Dia del Sol can be purchased on line at: www.beachandcountry.org, seating is limited.  The event will begin at 9:30 and end at 2:00.
